Last day of preschool...

Jake loved his first year of school at WOW preschool.  His teachers were wonderful and I'm so grateful for their dedication to helping these youngsters flourish.  Jake would've gone everyday if possible.  Today we celebrated the last day by playing outside, experienced the texture table (today was bubbles),  took class pictures, and spent one last time playing with friends.

River Bank Run 2012

I have a drawer full of River Bank Run shirts.  They're stained, too small, too big, faded, etc.  I can't throw them away.  I feel like such hard work went into earning each one.  This year was no different.  I ran the 10K in 61ish minutes.  Once again, I didn't reach my goal of under an hour.  But, I felt good, and I have come to the conclusion:  that's what matters.

We had a dedicated group of runners that participated in our Belay Youth Ministry team.  I am so proud of their dedication to running and accomplishing their personal goals.  I am humbled by their commitment to raising pledges for our new ministry.

Thank you, runners and pledgers!  And thank you, to our sponsors: Profiles by Design, WestEdge Realty, and Ryder.  And, a special thank-you to Request Food (and Sarah Bosma) for providing all of our food on Friday night, the Artisan Macaroni and Cheese is my fave!  Pledges are still coming in, so I will post a total amount raised, soon.  And, it's not too late to donate or follow-up on a verbal pledge!

The t-shirts were also a crowd favorite.  Thank you, Tara Meeuwsen, for volunteering your unbelievable talents with the logo creation.  You are so appreciated!

Most of the gang...missing a few.

Awwww...

Kite Festival

On Saturday the kites were flying perfectly in the mostly blue skies of Grand Haven.  Scott's Aunt Ginny and Uncle Brian were camping at the state park with some friends, and they had the perfect spot along the channel and views of the lighthouse.  We were joined by lots of other family as well!  It was so fun to gather for lunch with other family (Larry, Doug, Nana, Ally) and more!  My Dad also tagged along while my Mom was out of town.  What a perfect day.

The view from the campsite.

Jake heading out to see Uncle Brian flying his kite.  Caleb is way off to the right.

My turn at flying.

Waiting for the candy drop...

Huge kites!

Burn update

No stopping this kid.

Tongue sticks out more when one hand is handicapped.

Sometimes referred to as "one with horns".
We've been to the Pediatrician pretty much every day this week.  She changes his bandage and examines the progress or changes in his hand.  There were more developments on Thursday.  His hand seemed to be getting more blisters (4 days later).  But, some were looking better.  Tomorrow we go to Holland Hospital to the Wound Center for a consult.  We're thinking we will have a better understanding of how to move forward.  It's been a much longer journey than I had initially anticipated {insert tears}.  As you can see from the pics, there is nothing bothering that personality!  I think the fall into the fire pit is just the beginning.  I never thought raising two boys so close in age would be so exhausting.  They never stop digging, wrestling, climbing, riding, and competing.  I'm so thankful for a flat driveway that appears to be a race track.  Bikes are the all time fav these days.

Fire pit(fall)

We ended our weekend at the cabin with Caleb falling head first into the new outside fire pit.  There was no fire but there had been the day before.  The ironic part?  Scott and my Dad re-vamped the fire pit to make it safe.  It had been a pit that was flush with the deck.  They pulled the ring up and built 3 layers of nice patio brick around the steel ring.  So, we had our inaugural fire at the new cabin on Saturday afternoon.

We were all packed up on Sunday.  I looked outside as the boys had been playing hard outside all morning: climbing log piles, throwing sticks, etc.  There was Caleb.  He was standing next to the new pavers looking over the edge.  I took one step forward to deter him away from his curiosity.  Too late.  In he went.   There was no time to get frazzled.  The coals were still hot under the ash from the previous day.   Reaction set in and we immediately forced his little hands under the running cold tap water for as long as he could tolerate.  Then, we began wet cold compresses.  30 minutes later...Ludington E.R.

The one hand took the brunt of the fall/burn.  Our family pediatrician did the initial "unwrap" yesterday to reveal how things looked.  It was the first time I actually felt ill.  The blisters were huge, specifically the ones at the base of his fingers.  She had to peel apart his little fingers.  The good news:  he's going to heal fine.  It doesn't take away the horrible parent feeling.

We'll be seeing a lot of the Doctor this week as she continues to monitor his healing.  Today she extracted the blisters and removed some skin.  Guess what Caleb did the whole time?  Chatted, laughed his silly laugh, made silly eyes at me, and told her that we felt "all better."

Tomorrow we change the dressing ourselves.  And then have another appointment on Thursday.
He likes to hold up his right hand and say "the big one!"
The day before...

Does anyone need a babysitter?  Scott and I are available.
